Thomas Imbach is a Swiss film director. He was born in 1966 and is the son of a Swiss-German mother and a French-Italian father. He grew up in Bern, the capital of Switzerland, and studied philosophy, literature and painting at the University of Fribourg.
In 1988, Imbach made his first short film, “L’Enfant Sauvage”, which won several awards at international film festivals. This success encouraged him to direct two other short films, “Vivre” and “Les Pigeons”, which were both well received.
In 1997, Imbach released his first feature film, “Maria’s Paradise”, which was highly praised by the critics. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for a Cesar award. The success of “Maria’s Paradise” allowed Imbach to direct his second feature film, “The Lie”, in 2003. This film also had a successful run at the Cannes Film Festival and won several awards.
Imbach continued to direct films throughout the 2000s and his third feature film, “Adam & Eve”, was released in 2007. This film was a huge success and was nominated for numerous awards, including the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. In 2009, Imbach released his fourth feature film, “Mary”, which was also a success and earned him a nomination for the Cesar Award.
Imbach’s most recent film, “Hannah Arendt”, was released in 2012 and was well received by the critics. The film was nominated for several awards, including the European Film Award for Best Film.
In addition to his feature films, Imbach has also directed several television films and documentaries. His most recent documentary, “L’Ombre de l’Orient”, was released in 2013.
Imbach is considered to be one of the most important Swiss filmmakers of his generation. His films have won numerous awards and have been praised for their visual style and thought-provoking themes. Imbach continues to be active in the film industry and is currently working on his next project.
