BIO

Paul Smaczny is an award-winning film and television director. He is best known for his work on the critically acclaimed BBC series ‘The Honourable Woman’ and the Emmy-winning Netflix original series ‘Stranger Things’.

Paul was born in Toronto, Canada in 1974 and grew up in a family of Polish immigrants. He was always passionate about film and television, and from an early age, he was determined to pursue a career in the industry. After graduating from high school, Paul attended the University of Toronto where he received his degree in Film and Television Production. After graduation, Paul went on to work as a production assistant for several independent film projects before eventually moving to London, England to pursue his directing career.

In London, Paul began working on a variety of television and film projects, including the BBC series ‘The Honourable Woman’, for which he was nominated for a British Academy Television Award. He then went on to direct episodes of the hit series ‘Stranger Things’, which earned him an Emmy Award.

Paul has also directed several feature films, including ‘The Last Word’, ‘A Place at the Table’, and ‘Journeyman’. His most recent feature film is the critically acclaimed ‘The Burning Man’, which was released in 2020.

Paul is dedicated to creating meaningful and inspiring stories that explore human relationships and emotions. He is passionate about his craft and strives to push the boundaries of storytelling in order to create unique and impactful work.

Paul is an active member of the Directors Guild of America and the Producers Guild of America, and he continues to direct and produce films and television series around the world. He is also a mentor and teacher at the London Film School, where he imparts his knowledge and experience to the next generation of filmmakers.
