Metanoia means to expand and change the way one sees. In this documentary, conductor Simone Menezes travels across Italy and uncovers the Metanoia journeys of prolific figures in music and art.

Metanoia. An extraordinary musical journey

'Metanoia', which spans time and borders with composers such as Giacomo Puccini, Arvo Pärt, Alexander Borodin, Johann Sebastian Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Ennio Morricone, is steeped in this concept: Whether it was Puccini, who wrote only one sacred work because he was instructed by the Almighty God to write for the stage, Bach, whose remarkable ability to create transcendence through the use of the simplest of elements, or Pärt, whose ten-year creative crisis gave rise to a highly original musical language.

Featuring the ensemble K, Sequenza 9.3, and violinist Manon Galy, Simone Menezes travels through Italy with her ensemble and invites us to explore the thought-transcending aspects of music as well as some of the greatest figures in art and music's Metanoia journeys.
