Sarah Mathilde Domogala is a Franco Dutch filmmaker and writer known for her critical perspective on modern life and contemporary culture. Born on 23 February 1978 in Geleen, she developed an early interest in visual storytelling, initially making skateboard films and music videos while still in high school.
She later studied journalism and art history, a background that strongly informs her documentary work. Domogala gained international recognition with All We Ever Wanted (VPRO, 2010), an acclaimed and highly visual documentary that resonated deeply with a generation of young adults navigating ambition, success, and mental health in contemporary society. The film has been widely embraced by Millennial audiences and is often described as a defining portrait of its time.
Her filmography also includes Dedicated. Battle for the Public Space (2003), Things Behind the Sun (2007), Moon en het Wolvenmeisje (2007), Dutch Design Fashion Architecture (2009), and It Is in the Sky (2013). In parallel with her documentary work, she has directed several music videos for Dutch and international artists.
After completing several documentaries, Domogala returned to her first passion: writing. She writes culture critical essays, maintains a blog, and works on both a book and a film script. She also teaches her own classes at The School of Life, continuing her exploration of themes that look beneath the surface of hectic modern life in search of what truly motivates and moves people.
Sarah Domogala divides her time between Amsterdam and the French Pyrenees. She is married to filmmaker Tomas Kaan, with whom she has a son and a daughter.
