Helena Třeštíková is a Czech documentary filmmaker known for her long term observational work using the time lapse method. Born in Prague, she studied documentary film at FAMU, where she later became a university teacher. Since the 1980s she has focused on following the lives and personal destinies of her subjects over extended periods, a distinctive approach that has shaped many of her award winning films. Her notable works include Marriage Stories, Marcela, René, Katka, Mallory and Anny. Třeštíková briefly served as Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the European Film Academy.
