Tomas Astudillo is an award-winning Chilean director and producer. His career has spanned over two decades, and he has created films that have been screened at prestigious festivals around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Telluride Film Festival, and the Toronto International Film Festival.

Astudillo was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1971. He attended the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, where he majored in film studies and graduated with a degree in film direction. He then began to work as a freelance director, making short films and music videos. In 2002, his debut feature film, El arte de la guerra, won Best Picture at the Latin American Film Festival in Madrid.

The success of his first feature established Astudillo as a director to watch, and his subsequent films have been highly praised by critics. His 2006 film, The Year of the Tiger, won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award. His 2010 film, The Aura, was the official Chilean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
