Tom Heinemann is an acclaimed Danish director, producer and screenwriter. He has earned two Oscar nominations for his documentary films The House that Jacque Built and The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers.

Heinemann was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1965. He studied literature at the University of Copenhagen, but changed his focus to film after seeing the works of Jean-Luc Godard. He then attended the National Film School of Denmark, where he graduated in 1993.

Heinemann’s first feature-length film was The House that Jacque Built, a documentary about the French architect and urban planner, Jacques Tati. The film was nominated for an Academy Award and received critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival.

Heinemann followed up his success with The Most Dangerous Man in America, which tells the story of Daniel Ellsberg, the man who leaked the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War. The film was also nominated for an Academy Award and won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Heinemann has also directed several television documentaries, including the Emmy-nominated The Human Face of Big Data, which explores how the rise of big data is changing our lives.

In addition to his directing work, Heinemann is also a screenwriter. He has written the screenplays for the feature films A Hijacking, A War, and Land of Mine, which have all been nominated for Academy Awards.

Heinemann remains active in the film industry and is currently in post-production on his most recent documentary, entitled Citizen Schein, which follows the life of the Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier.
