BIO

Simona Calo is a multi-award winning director and producer of feature films and documentaries. She was born in Palermo, Sicily in 1977. She studied film directing at the National Film School in Rome and went on to work as a director and producer for Italian television networks.

In 2006, she wrote and directed the feature film La Lingerie, which won numerous awards at international film festivals, including the prestigious Nastro d’Argento, the Italian equivalent of an Oscar. Following this success, she went on to direct and produce several other feature films, documentaries and short films. Her films have been featured at film festivals around the world, including Cannes, Berlin, Locarno and Rotterdam.

Simona is passionate about telling stories that explore the complexities of human relationships and the power of emotions. Her work has been praised for its originality and her ability to make audiences feel deeply connected to her characters. She is also known for her use of naturalistic settings and her strong visual style.

In addition to her feature films and documentaries, Simona has also directed music videos for some of Italy’s most popular artists, including Ligabue and Jovanotti. She has also directed commercials for international brands such as Coca Cola, Fiat and Nike.

Simona is currently working on her next feature film, which is set to be released in 2021. She is also developing a new documentary about the Italian fashion industry.

Simona has been recognized for her contributions to the Italian film industry, and in 2017 she was awarded the distinction of Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana for her services to Italian culture. She is an active member of the Italian Directors Guild, a member of the Italian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and a member of the European Film Academy.
