Silvana Lopa is a Mexican-American film director and screenwriter. She was born in Mexico City and moved to the United States at the age of seven. Lopa has become one of the most recognizable names in independent film, having written and directed numerous award-winning films.
Lopa's career began in 2001 when she wrote and directed her first feature film, "En Busca de la Paz" (In Search of Peace). The film won the Best Feature Film award at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, and was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Following the success of her first feature, Lopa wrote and directed the short film "La Fauna" (The Fauna) which won the Best Short Film award at the New York International Latino Film Festival.
In 2006, Lopa wrote and directed her second feature film "Tres Veces Ana" (Three Times Ana). The film won numerous awards, including Best Director and Best Film at the Chicago International Latino Film Festival, and Best Director at the San Francisco International Latino Film Festival. The film was also nominated for a Golden Globe, and received the Special Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
In 2008, Lopa wrote and directed the television series "La Casa de las Flores" (The House of Flowers), which aired on Televisa in Mexico. The series was nominated for numerous awards, including an International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series.
In 2017, Lopa wrote and directed the feature film "Un Amor" (A Love). The film was nominated for Best Director at the Ariel Awards and won the Best Film award at the San Diego Latino Film Festival.
Lopa is an active member of the film community and has served as a juror at numerous film festivals, including the Chicago International Latino Film Festival, San Francisco International Latino Film Festival, and the Morelia International Film Festival. She has also been a member of the Sundance Institute's Feature Film Program since 2010.
