Ruolin Xu is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. Born in 1986 in Beijing, China, Xu has been involved in the film industry since a young age.
Xu attended the Beijing Film Academy where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Directing in 2008. After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant director on several television series and feature films.
In 2010, Xu made his directorial debut with the feature film “Love Song”, which became a critical and commercial success. The film was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay.
Xu’s second feature film, “The Story of a Man”, was released in 2012 and earned him a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 2014, Xu wrote and directed the drama “The Dream”, which was selected to compete at the Cannes Film Festival. The film follows the story of a young woman who moves to a new city to pursue her dream of becoming a professional dancer.
Xu’s most recent feature film, “Beijing Love Story”, was released in 2017 and tells the story of a young couple struggling to make their relationship work amidst the pressures of a rapidly changing Beijing. The film was selected as the closing film for the Hong Kong International Film Festival and won the Best Picture award at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Xu’s films have earned him widespread acclaim and recognition. He has received numerous awards and nominations, including the Huabiao Award for Best New Director and two Golden Rooster Awards.
Xu is also an accomplished actor, having starred in films such as “The Dream” and “Beijing Love Story”. Outside of film, Xu is an avid basketball fan and enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.
