Melisa Liebenthal is an award-winning director, producer, and screenwriter who has worked on a wide variety of projects from feature films to television series. She has collaborated with some of the most renowned industry talent and her work has been featured at festivals around the world.
Liebenthal was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career in the film industry. She attended the University of Southern California, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema-Television Production.
After graduation, Liebenthal continued to pursue her passion for filmmaking. She began her career as an assistant director on various feature films, including the critically acclaimed “Che” (2008) and the acclaimed “A Better Life” (2011). Liebenthal then moved on to direct her own feature films, beginning with “The Beat Beneath My Feet” (2014). The film was an official selection at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and earned Liebenthal a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Film.
Liebenthal has also directed television episodes for series such as “Queen of the South,” “Impulse,” “The Fosters,” and “Good Trouble.” She has served as a producer on a number of projects, including the critically acclaimed “The Other Side of Heaven” (2012).
Although Liebenthal’s work in the film and television industry has been successful, she has also pursued other creative endeavors. In 2016, she co-founded the Los Angeles-based production company, Little Monster Films. The company focuses on developing and producing feature films and television series that are both commercially viable and artistically admirable.
In addition to her work in the entertainment industry, Liebenthal is an active member of the Directors Guild of America and is a board member of Women in Film Los Angeles. She also serves on the advisory board of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
