Mario Handler is a renowned Uruguayan-born film director and producer, best known for his work on the award-winning feature-length film "The Distance Between Us" (2018). Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1976, Handler began his career as a theater director in his home country, before making a move to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2001. There, he worked on a variety of independent films, as well as television projects for local and international audiences.
In 2006, Handler established his own production company, Mario Handler Films, and began producing and directing his own works. His first feature-length film, "La Distancia Entre Nosotros" (The Distance Between Us), earned him the Best Feature Award at the 2008 Montevideo International Film Festival. Since then, Handler has gone on to direct and produce a variety of critically acclaimed films, such as "La Vida de un Genio" (The Life of a Genius, 2012), "La Vida de un Inmigrante" (The Life of an Immigrant, 2015), and "Todos Somos El Hombre" (We Are All the Man, 2017).
Handler is also known for his work as a producer on the Netflix original series "La Casa de las Flores" (The House of Flowers, 2018). He has also produced several short films, such as "Memoria" (Memory, 2018) and "Tiempo de Juego" (Time to Play, 2019).
Handler is a passionate advocate for women's rights and has worked closely with organizations such as the Uruguayan Women's Film Collective to help promote female filmmakers. He also lectures at international film festivals, sharing his knowledge and experience with aspiring filmmakers.
Handler is currently based in Buenos Aires, where he continues to work on his own projects as well as collaborate with a variety of talented filmmakers. He is an inspiration to many, and his work continues to be celebrated around the world.
