BIO

Marcos Pimentel is a Brazilian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his critically acclaimed feature debut, "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation", which won numerous awards, including the Best Film at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival Un Certain Regard.

Pimentel was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and grew up in a small rural town. He began his career as an assistant director for various Brazilian films in the early 2000s. After directing some short films, Pimentel made his feature film debut with "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation" in 2006.

The film tells the story of a twelve-year-old boy, Mauro, who is left alone in his grandparents' apartment in a Jewish neighborhood of Sao Paulo when his parents go on vacation. Mauro's journey of discovery and his interaction with the colorful characters of the neighborhood is at the heart of the film. The film was praised for its honest and humorous portrayal of a Jewish community in Brazil.

Pimentel's sophomore feature film, "The Invisible Woman", was released in 2010 and stars leading Brazilian actress Fernanda Montenegro. The film follows the story of a woman who is struggling to find her place in the world after the death of her husband. It received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the 2010 Rio International Film Festival.

Since then, Pimentel has directed several other feature films, such as "The Second Mother" (2015), "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" (2018), and "The Edge of Democracy" (2019). He has also produced several films, including "The Pope's Toilet" (2007) and "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation" (2006).
