Marat Sargsyan is an Armenian director, producer, and screenwriter who has made a name for himself in the film industry. He was born in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1983.
He began his career as a film editor and assistant director in 2003 and went on to direct his first short film, “The Path”, in 2006. This film was an official selection for the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and earned him a number of awards, including Best Short Film at the Armenian National Film Festival.
In 2008, Marat directed his first feature-length movie, “The High Sun”, which was an international success. The film went on to be nominated for 17 awards, winning 12, including the Grand Prix at the Cairo International Film Festival and Best Feature Film at the Moscow International Film Festival.

Marat’s latest feature film, “A Step Into the Dark”, was released in 2020. The film tells the story of a young woman’s struggle to find her place in a world filled with darkness and despair. The film was an official selection at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Grand Prize at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
