Luna Marán (born 28 April 1973) is a Mexican director, screenwriter, and producer of film and television. She is best known for her work in the television series El Señor de Los Cielos (The Lord of the Skies) and La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South).

Marán was born in Mexico City to a family of filmmakers. Her father was an editor and her mother was a costume designer. She began her career as a production assistant on a number of Mexican films and television shows. She then worked as an assistant director on various projects, including the Mexican series El Señor de Los Cielos.

In 2004, Marán made her directorial debut with the feature film Abrazar la Vida (Embracing Life). The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was a critical success. Marán followed up with the thriller film Hermosas Criaturas (Beautiful Creatures) in 2006, which was also met with critical acclaim.

Marán’s television directing career began with the series El Señor de Los Cielos, which was an international success. The series was the first to be shot entirely in High Definition in Mexico, and Marán was nominated for a prestigious Emmy award for her work.

Marán also directed a handful of episodes of the series La Reina del Sur, which was a critical and commercial success in the Latin American market. In 2012, she was the executive producer of the Mexican series La Señora (The Lady), which was nominated for several awards.

Marán is a passionate advocate for Latin American cinema and is a strong believer in the power of story-telling as a means of social change. She has been the recipient of numerous awards for her work, including the Ariel Award for Best Picture for Abrazar la Vida.

Marán continues to work in film and television, and is currently in production on the new series La Casa de las Flores (The House of Flowers), which is scheduled for release in 2018. Her work has made a lasting impact on the Latin American film and television industry, and she continues to inspire young filmmakers around the world.
