Laura Coppens is an award-winning director, writer, and producer from the Netherlands. She is best known for her critically acclaimed short films, documentaries, and feature films.

Coppens started her directing career with the short film, ‘The Book of Miracles’, which she wrote, directed, and produced. The film was an official selection at the Netherlands Film Festival and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. She went on to direct the documentary ‘Blessed’, which was awarded the Golden Calf for Best Documentary at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2015.

Following ‘Blessed’, Coppens directed the feature film ‘The Last of Us’, which was released in 2017. The film was well-received by critics and won the Audience Award at the Netherlands Film Festival. Her next project was the short film ‘Butterfly’ which was selected for the Berlin International Film Festival in 2019.

In the same year, Coppens directed the feature film ‘The Land of the Free’, which was a big success at the box office. The film won the Golden Calf for Best Feature Film at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2020. She also directed the documentary ‘The Young Generation’, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021.

Coppens is currently in pre-production for her next project, ‘The Lost Girls’, a feature film about a group of teenage girls who are struggling to find their place in the world. The film is set to premiere in 2022.

In addition to her directing and producing work, Coppens is a passionate advocate for gender equality in the film industry. She is a member of the Dutch Female Directors Association and has spoken at numerous international film festivals about the need for female filmmakers to be taken more seriously.
