Kraisak Choonhavan is a Thai politician and former director of the Thailand-United States Educational Foundation (TUSEF). He is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in Thai politics and is often referred to as the "Father of Thai Democracy".

Kraisak was born on October 29, 1940 in Bangkok, Thailand. He attended the prestigious Chulalongkorn University, graduating with a degree in law in 1966. After graduation, he worked as a lawyer and journalist, becoming involved in student politics while at university. In 1973, he was elected to the House of Representatives, becoming the youngest member of the legislature at the time.

Kraisak quickly became an influential figure in Thai politics, often advocating for greater democracy and human rights. He was one of the leaders of the pro-democracy movement in the 1980s, and helped draft the first Constitution of Thailand in 1997. He also spearheaded efforts to end military rule in Thailand and to promote the rule of law.

Kraisak is widely respected for his work and dedication to democracy. In 2003, he was appointed Director of the Thailand-United States Educational Foundation (TUSEF). He was instrumental in the foundation’s success, helping to create a platform for educational exchange and cultural dialogue between the two countries. In 2009, he was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service, honoring his "exemplary ethical leadership and moral courage".

Kraisak remains an active figure in Thai politics, and continues to advocate for greater democracy and human rights.
