BIO

Director, screenwriter and executive producer of the documentary “Seeds: black women in power” (2020), which won Best Documentary at the Montreal International Black Film Festival, Júlia Mariano studied cinema at the International Film School of Cuba (EICTV) and has been working as a documentary director and screenwriter in Rio de Janeiro since 2010. In 2012 Júlia scripted and produced “A Batalha do Passinho”, winner of the Best Documentary award at the Novos Rumos Showcase at the 2013 Rio Film Festival, and “Deixa Na Régua”, which received the Special Jury Award at the 2016 Rio Film Festival. Júlia Mariano has also directed several short films, including “Ameaçados”, which won the Audience Award at the Curta Cinema festival in Rio de Janeiro and the 25th Kinoforum in São Paulo in 2014, and Best Director at the Guarnicê Festival in Maranhão in 2015. In television and streaming Júlia has directed documentary series, including “Desde Junho” (2017/ Amazon Prime and EBC network) and Marcadas (2018 / CinebrasilTV).
