Joaquim Castro is a Brazilian director, writer, producer, and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of independent production company, Brava Filmes, and the director of the critically-acclaimed feature films, 'O Último Cine Drive-in' (The Last Drive-in Cinema) and 'O Bebê de Bridget Jones' (Bridget Jones' Baby).

Castro was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1964. He graduated from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with a degree in literature and film. He then went on to study at the Escola de Cinema Darcy Ribeiro, where he received his master's degree in cinematography.

Castro began his career as a documentary filmmaker, creating several acclaimed documentaries including 'Brasil: Fantástico' (Brazil: Fantastic) and 'O Elo Quebrado' (The Broken Link). He then moved on to feature films, directing 'O Último Cine Drive-in' (The Last Drive-in Cinema) which won the Jury Prize at the 2006 Festival de Cinema de Brasília.

In 2012, Castro co-founded Brava Filmes, an independent production company that produces films, television series, and documentaries. He is the director of the company's critically-acclaimed feature film, 'O Bebê de Bridget Jones' (Bridget Jones' Baby). The film was released in 2016 and was a box office success, grossing over $100 million worldwide.

In addition to his work as a director, Castro is also an entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of the online streaming service, CineMais, which provides access to hundreds of independent films, documentaries, and series from filmmakers around the world.

Throughout his career, Castro has won numerous awards, including the Brazilian Film Critics Award for Best Feature Film in 2006 and the Audience Award for Best Film at the 2011 Festival de Brasília. He has also been nominated for the Grand Prix at the 2014 Festival de Cannes and the Grand Prix at the 2016 Festival de Brasília.
