João Pedro Plácido is a renowned Portuguese director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his films O Crime do Padre Amaro (2002) and A Costa dos Murmúrios (2004). He has won numerous awards for his work in Portuguese cinema, including the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Plácido was born in 1974 in Lisbon, Portugal. He graduated from the Lisbon Film Academy in 1995 and made his directorial debut with the short film O Pássaro Azul in 1996. The film entered multiple international festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival, and won several awards.

Plácido’s first feature film was O Crime do Padre Amaro (2002), a drama about a young priest who is torn between his religious duties and his earthly desires. The film was a major success in Portugal and around the world, and it won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2004, Plácido released A Costa dos Murmúrios, a drama set in an isolated fishing village in Portugal. The film won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and it was nominated for five Portuguese Academy Awards.

In 2006, Plácido directed the feature film O Primo Basílio, which won several awards at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. He then went on to direct the critically acclaimed drama A Divina Comédia in 2010, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Plácido’s most recent feature films are O Fantasma (2012) and O Gebo e a Sombra (2013). In 2015, he wrote and directed the television series O Outro Lado do Vento, which won two Golden Globes.
