BIO

Jeff Hockett is a theatre director, writer, and professor based in New York City. He is known for his work on Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, and regional theatre. Hockett is also a professor of theatre at The New School for Drama.

Hockett was born and raised in California. He grew up in a family of theatre-lovers and developed an interest in the medium at a young age. He attended UCLA and received a degree in theatre in 2000. After college, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in theatre.

Hockett has worked as a director and writer on a variety of projects. He has directed plays, musicals, and cabarets at multiple Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway theatre companies, including the Lucille Lortel Theatre, the Public Theatre, and the Geffen Playhouse. He has also directed for regional theatres, such as the Denver Center Theatre Company and the Baltimore Center Stage.

Hockett has written several plays and musicals that have been performed Off-Broadway and at regional theatres. His work often focuses on issues of social justice, such as the immigration crisis, the Black Lives Matter movement, and LGBTQ+ rights. He has received several awards for his writing and directing, including a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Director of a Musical.

In addition to his work as a director and writer, Hockett is also a professor of theatre at The New School for Drama. He teaches classes on directing, playwriting, and theatre history. He has also served as a guest lecturer at other universities and institutions, such as Princeton and the American Repertory Theatre.
