Ivan Gergolet is a Croatian film director, writer, and producer, known for his work in film and television. Born in Osijek, Croatia, Gergolet grew up in a small village outside of the city. His parents were both involved in the arts, with his father being an actor and his mother a painter. Having been exposed to the arts from a young age, Gergolet developed a passion for film and storytelling.
Gergolet attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, after which he wrote and directed several short films. His first feature film, “The Unseen” (2009), was an award-winning independent production and was selected for numerous international film festivals. He followed this up with “Til Death Do Us Part” (2010) which was released in theaters and was met with critical acclaim.
In 2012, Gergolet wrote and directed his third feature film, “The Forgotten”, which was a critically acclaimed drama that won several awards. The film was selected to compete in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, and it earned Gergolet a nomination for Best Director at the European Film Awards.
Gergolet has since gone on to direct several more feature films, including “The Way We Talk” (2013) and “The Last Supper” (2015). He also wrote and directed the television series “Limbo” (2015) and “The Good Shepherd” (2017). In 2018, Gergolet directed his first English-language feature film, “The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot”, which was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Gergolet’s work has been praised for its storytelling and visual style, as well as its exploration of themes of identity, morality, and the human condition. He has become one of Croatia’s most acclaimed filmmakers, and his films have been shown at festivals around the world. He continues to write and direct films that explore the complexities of the human experience.
