BIO

Ellen Weissbrod is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. She was born and raised in Los Angeles, California on December 3, 1977. She is best known for her work on the feature film, "The Girl on the Train" (2018).

Weissbrod studied film production at the University of Southern California and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1999. After graduating, she began her career as a production assistant on feature films such as "The Devil's Advocate" (1997), "Anywhere But Here" (1999), and "The Family Man" (2000). In 2002, she co-wrote and produced the feature film "The Rules of Attraction."

In 2007, Weissbrod wrote and directed her first feature film, "The Nanny Diaries," which won her the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film starred Scarlett Johansson, Laura Linney, and Paul Giamatti. Following the success of "The Nanny Diaries," she went on to direct the 2009 feature film, "It's Complicated," starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin.

In 2009, Weissbrod was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for her work on the HBO series "Bored to Death." She directed four episodes of the series, which starred Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis, and Ted Danson.

In 2018, Weissbrod directed the feature film "The Girl on the Train," based on the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins. The film starred Emily Blunt and Luke Evans and was released in theaters in October of that year.

Weissbrod has also directed several short films, including "The Moment" (2005) and "Last Night" (2014). She has also directed several episodes of popular television shows, such as "Grey's Anatomy," "The Mindy Project," and "The Good Place."

Weissbrod is currently in pre-production on her next feature film, "The Last Summer," starring K.J. Apa and Maia Mitchell. The film is set to be released in 2020.
