Darren Hercher grew up on a small family fairground in the Highlands of Scotland. He began his career in visual storytelling studying documentary photography at the School of Documentary Photography at Newport School of Art in Wales, graduating in 1999. After working for several years as a freelance documentary cameraman in London, he shifted his focus to directing his own observational documentary films.
His work has screened at major international festivals including Full Frame, IDFA and Sheffield DocFest. Darren’s films have consistently received critical recognition, with nominations and awards from organisations such as Grierson, BAFTA and RTS Scotland. In recent years, he has pursued a long term ambition to combine his documentary background with a growing interest in scripted drama cinematography.
