BIO

Cris Lyra is a Brazilian director and screenwriter best known for her film “Eu Receberia as Piores Notícias dos seus Lindos Lábios” (I Would Receive the Worst News from Your Beautiful Lips), winner of the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2018.

Lyra was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1975. She studied film directing at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and also at the University of São Paulo. She has directed several short films, such as “Fio da Navalha” (Razor’s Edge, 2009), “Eu Te Amo” (I Love You, 2011) and “Bastidores” (Backstage, 2012).

In 2013, Lyra wrote and directed her debut feature film “A Festa da Menina Morta” (The Dead Girl’s Feast), which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2014, where it won the Best Actress Award. She also won the Special Jury Prize at the Brasilia Film Festival. Her second feature film, “Eu Receberia as Piores Notícias dos seus Lindos Lábios” (I Would Receive the Worst News from Your Beautiful Lips), was selected for the Locarno Film Festival in 2018, where it won the Golden Leopard for Best Film.

Lyra’s films explore the universality of human emotions, reflecting on the themes of loss, grief, and love. Her works are known for their delicate approach and poetic style of narration. Lyra has been praised for her ability to express complex emotions in a simple and direct way.

In addition to her films, Lyra has also directed several television films and series, such as “Eu Não Sou de Ferro” (I’m Not Made of Iron, 2017), “Vento de Maio” (May Wind, 2018) and “Cidade dos Homens” (City of Men, 2019).

Cris Lyra is one of the most important and influential filmmakers of her generation in Brazil. Her films have been praised for their unique style and approach to filmmaking, and she is considered one of the most important voices in Brazilian cinema.
