Chienyung Lin is a Taiwanese film director and screenwriter who has been making films since the late 1980s. He has directed some of the most critically acclaimed films in Taiwan and has won several awards for his work.

Lin was born in 1960 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He attended the National Taiwan University where he studied Chinese literature. After graduating, he began working as a film critic for the magazine Cinema. In 1986, he wrote and directed his first short film, The Return of the Dragon. The film was a success and helped launch his career as a director.

In the early 1990s, Lin began to focus on feature-length films. His first feature film was A Chinese Ghost Story in 1993. The film received positive reviews and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. It was also the first Taiwanese film to be released in the United States.

Lin’s next film, The Red Lotus Society (1995), was also well received. The film was nominated for several awards, including the Golden Horse Award for Best Feature Film. In 1997, he directed the critically acclaimed Love in the Time of Hysteria, which won the Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

In 2002, Lin directed the drama An Affair of Love, which was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He followed this up with the award-winning drama, Blue Gate Crossing (2003), which won the Best Narrative Feature Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Lin’s most recent film is the drama-thriller, The Silent War (2012). The film was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Best Feature Film Award at the Taipei Film Festival.

Lin has also directed several television series, including the award-winning drama, The White Tower (2003). He is currently working on his next film, The Last Train, which is expected to be released in 2020.

Throughout his career, Lin has been praised for his unique visual style and his ability to tell stories that touch the hearts of his viewers. He is one of the most influential filmmakers in Taiwan and is considered to be one of the best directors in the world.
