Catherine van Campen is a film director, producer, and screenwriter who has been creating unique and inspiring projects since the early 2000s. She is best known for her work on the feature films “The Best of Us” (2012), “Concrete” (2016) and “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” (2019).
Born in the Netherlands in 1979, Catherine developed an interest in filmmaking at an early age. She studied film at the University of Amsterdam and then went on to complete her Masters at the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam. After graduating, she worked as a freelance production assistant on feature films and television series in the Netherlands and Germany.
In 2008, Catherine wrote and directed her first short film, “A Night in the Woods”, which was nominated for a Golden Calf Award at the Netherlands Film Festival. She subsequently made her feature film debut with “The Best of Us” (2012), which was an official selection of the International Film Festival Rotterdam and earned her a nomination for the Grand Prize at the Sofia International Film Festival.
In 2016, Catherine wrote and directed her second feature film, “Concrete”, which was selected for the Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Golden Starfish at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The film also earned her a Gouden Kalf nomination for Best Screenplay at the Netherlands Film Festival.
Her third feature film, “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” (2019), premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Collaboration. The film was also selected for the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Telluride Film Festival.
Catherine is currently in post-production on her fourth feature film, “The Last Days of Summer”. She is also developing a new television series for HBO, “The American Dreamers”.
