Bruno Baillargeon is a highly acclaimed Canadian film and television director. He is best known for his work on the films “The Decline of the American Empire” (1986) and “Love and Human Remains” (1993). He has also directed several television series, including “Les Bougon” (2004-2006) and “La Galère” (2008-2009).
Baillargeon was born in Montreal, Quebec, in 1954. He studied film at the University of Montreal and the Canadian Film Centre, where he graduated with a degree in film production.
Baillargeon began his career directing and producing documentaries for the National Film Board of Canada. He also directed a number of short films, including “L’amour avec un grand A” (1984), which won the Genie Award for Best Short Film.
In 1986, Baillargeon made his feature film debut with “The Decline of the American Empire”. The film was a critical and commercial success, and was nominated for eight Genie Awards, including Best Picture. It was also selected as Canada’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Baillargeon’s next feature film was “Love and Human Remains” (1993). The film was a surreal and darkly comic look at contemporary relationships, and was nominated for two Genie Awards, including Best Picture.
Baillargeon has continued to direct films and television series throughout the years. His other notable credits include “The Barbarian Invasions” (2003), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and “Cadavres” (2009), which won the Genie Award for Best Picture.
Throughout his career, Baillargeon has established himself as one of Canada’s most respected filmmakers. He is renowned for his ability to tackle complex and challenging material, and for his willingness to take risks. He is also noted for his ability to create compelling and emotionally resonant films.
Baillargeon continues to direct films and television series. He is currently in pre-production for his upcoming feature film, “La traversée”.
