Andrew D. Kaplan is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter best known for his work on films such as The Punisher (2004) and White House Down (2013).
Kaplan was born and raised in New York City, where he developed an early appreciation for movies. He attended New York University's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, and went on to receive an MFA in film production from the University of Southern California.
He began his career in the entertainment industry as an assistant director on the set of the hit television show, NYPD Blue. After working on numerous productions, he made the jump into feature film directing. His first feature, The Punisher, was released in 2004 and was a commercial and critical success. The film starred Thomas Jane in the title role and earned Kaplin his first directing credit.
He went on to direct White House Down (2013) starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. The film was a box office success, grossing over $205 million worldwide. His other notable directing credits include I, Robot (2004), The Kingdom (2007) and Source Code (2011).
In addition to directing, Kaplan has also written several feature films, including The Punisher, I, Robot and Source Code, as well as the television series, The Pretender.
Kaplan has received numerous awards and nominations for his work, including a Saturn Award nomination for Best Director for The Punisher. He was also nominated for the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures for White House Down.
Throughout his career, Kaplan has also been involved in various charitable causes, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the USO.
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys playing basketball, reading, and traveling. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
