Andrea Sedlackova is a Czech filmmaker, screenwriter and director. She was born in Prague in 1983 and studied at the Prague Film School and the Faculty of Film and Television at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.

Sedlackova’s career began in 2005 with the release of her first feature film, the award-winning A Hole in My Heart. The film follows the story of a teenage girl who finds an escape from her troubled home life in the isolation of a hole she has dug in her backyard. The film won several awards and was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sedlackova followed this up with her second feature film, The Way Out, in 2008. The film tells the story of a young Czech woman who must overcome her fear of change and seek a new way of life. The film was widely praised for its sensitive and nuanced portrayal of a young girl’s journey of self-discovery.

In 2010, Sedlackova released her third feature film, the romantic drama An Unexpected Love. The film follows the story of two young people who, against all odds, find themselves drawn together in a passionate love affair. The film was a critical success and earned Sedlackova several awards including the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Sedlackova’s fourth feature film, The High Sun, was released in 2015 and was selected as the Czech entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards. The film follows three intertwining stories of love set over a period of thirty years in an unnamed Balkan country. The film was critically acclaimed and was awarded the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sedlackova’s latest feature, Little Harbour, was released in 2019. The film follows the story of a young girl and her brother as they struggle to deal with the death of their mother and the harsh realities of life in a small Slovak village. The film was a critical success and won several awards including the Best Feature Film at the European Film Awards.

Throughout her career, Sedlackova has established herself as one of the foremost filmmakers in Czech cinema.
