Amr Bayoumi is an internationally acclaimed Egyptian director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his feature films, The Square (2013), Clash (2016), and Sheikh Jackson (2017).
Born in Cairo in 1975, Amr grew up in a family of film fanatics. He studied filmmaking at the Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo and graduated in 1998. After graduation, he worked as an assistant director on several feature films as well as television programs.
In 2003, Amr released his first feature film, The Square, which went on to be an international success. The film, which focused on the struggles of a young man during the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, won numerous awards at various film festivals.
In 2009, Amr directed his second feature, The Long Night, which was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was also the winner of the Best Arab Film Award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.
Amr's third feature, Clash, was released in 2016. The film, which focused on the clashes between protesters and security forces during the Egyptian Revolution, was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best Picture at the Cairo International Film Festival.
In 2017, Amr released his fourth feature, Sheikh Jackson. The film, which focused on the life of a young Egyptian man dealing with the death of Michael Jackson, was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It was also the winner of Best Picture at the Cairo International Film Festival.
Amr's films have earned him critical acclaim and numerous awards, and he has become one of the most respected filmmakers in the Arab world. His films have also been featured at various international film festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and Abu Dhabi.
Amr is currently developing his fifth feature film, which is set to begin production in 2021. He is also working on several television projects and short films. He continues to be a creative force in the Egyptian film industry and is considered one of the most influential filmmakers in the Arab world.
