Alexandru Solomon



Alexandru Solomon is a Romanian director and producer, best known for his award-winning films. Born in Bucharest, Romania in 1972, he studied at the Film and Theatre Academy of Bucharest, graduating in 1998. He then worked as an assistant director for some of Romania's most renowned filmmakers, including Lucian Pintilie and Radu Gabrea.

In 2002, Solomon made his debut feature film, The Cage, which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival and received a Special Mention from the jury. The film was a critical success, and Solomon soon gained international recognition for his work.

In 2005, his second feature, The Great Fire, was released. The film was also selected for Cannes and won the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film. This success was followed by a series of documentaries, including The Paper Will Be Blue, which won a number of awards, including Best Documentary at the Transylvania International Film Festival.

In 2008, Solomon released his third feature, If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle, which won the Grand Prix at the Berlin International Film Festival and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival's Un Certain Regard section. The film went on to become an international success and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards.

In 2016, Solomon released his fourth feature, Dogs, which received critical acclaim and was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or and won the Un Certain Regard Award.

Since then, Solomon has directed a number of documentaries, including The Devil's Garden, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. He has also continued to produce films, most recently the feature film Pororoca, which is set to be released in 2021.
