Sweep It Up, Swig It Down - Revisiting Leipzig’s street sweepers' lives
In October 1996, nearly a decade after his initial encounters with the three Leipzig street sweepers, director Gerd Kroske revisited them. Having left their cleaning jobs and lost touch with one another, Gabi, Henry, and Stefan now navigate lives marked by struggle, moving between their apartments, pubs, and social welfare offices.
Kroske employs a parallel montage to reconnect his protagonists, bridging past and present by weaving in excerpts from his 1990 documentary, Sweep It Up. This follow-up explores the evolution of their fears and hopes, reflecting on the impact of time and change on their lives.
