Sweep It Up - Street sweepers reflect on Germany's upheaval

Leipzig's peaceful Monday Demonstrations of 1989 set the stage for the fall of the Berlin Wall, marking a pivotal moment in history. However, by the spring of 1990, the optimism of these protests had transformed into the chaos of an intense electoral campaign.

Through the eyes of three street sweepers—Gabi, Henry, and Stefan—who have endured lives marked by children's homes and prison, the documentary captures a raw and poignant perspective on this turbulent period.

Their nightly conversations, filled with despair and fractured self-esteem, also reveal an acute awareness of the profound changes unfolding in East Germany, offering a unique lens on the country's path to transformation.
