asily Bogatov is a Russian film director and video artist, and a member of the artistic collective Gogol’s Wives. His work focuses on political dissent, civil society and artistic resistance in contemporary Russia.
Together with his partner Taisiya Krugovykh, also a film and video director, he has collaborated with the human rights NGO Memorial and with the feminist punk collective Pussy Riot. Their projects document activism, state repression and the intersection of art and politics.
As a result of their work, Bogatov and Krugovykh were subjected to police persecution in Russia. In 2023, they went into exile and sought political asylum in France.
