Sjoerd Oostrik is a Dutch documentary filmmaker based between Los Angeles and Amsterdam. He received his MA in History at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen before studying Documentary Directing at the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam. His graduation film Destiny won the Wildcard Award of the Dutch Film Fund for the most promising graduating documentary director.
Sjoerd has directed several short and medium length documentaries that have screened at internationally renowned festivals including Locarno Film Festival, IDFA, FESPACO, Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival, and Dokfest München. His feature length debut A Quiet Place premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2016, where it received the Media Fund Prize.
Alongside his directing work, Sjoerd Oostrik is a guest lecturer at UCLA and at the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam.
