Miroslav Janek is a Czech film and television director best known for his work on the international hit TV series ‘The Bridge’. He has also directed a number of feature films, including the critically acclaimed ‘The Great Silence’, which was nominated for multiple awards including a BAFTA for Best Film.

Born in Prague in 1965, Miroslav Janek studied film at the prestigious FAMU Academy of Performing Arts, graduating in 1986. Following his graduation he worked as an assistant director on several films and television shows, including the Czech comedy ‘Knife in the Water’ and the drama ‘The Pigeon’.

In 1991 Janek directed his first feature film, ‘The Great Silence’, which went on to garner both critical acclaim and multiple awards. The film was praised for its visual style and the way it depicted the post-communist Czech Republic.

In 2003 Janek made his first foray into television, directing the Czech series ‘The Troubleshooters’. He followed this up with the successful drama series ‘The Bridge’, which aired in multiple countries around the world, including the UK and the US. The show was especially successful in Germany, where it was nominated for a Golden Globe.

In recent years Janek has continued to direct for both film and television. He has directed episodes of a number of popular shows, including ‘Law & Order: SVU’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, and ‘The Good Wife’. He also directed the feature films ‘The Good Girl’ and ‘The Magician’, both of which were well received by critics.

In addition to his film and television work, Miroslav Janek has also served as a professor of film and television at the Prague Film School. He has been active in the film industry for over 30 years and is respected for his mastery of both technical and narrative elements.
