Marco Bonfanti



Marco Bonfanti is an Italian director and screenwriter. He was born in Milan in 1983. He studied directing at the National Film School in Rome and achieved a degree in 2007.

After school, he started his career in the film industry, working in the Art Department in various Italian films. He also started writing and directing short films, which gained him recognition at Italian film festivals.

His first feature film, Il Futuro, was released in 2013. It was a success with both critics and audiences and won numerous awards, including the Best International Feature award at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Bonfanti's second feature film, Una Questione Privata, premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2017. Set during World War II, it follows a young Italian soldier's search for his beloved, who has been taken away by the German army. The film was praised for its use of period details and its exploration of themes such as love, loyalty and patriotism.

In 2019, Bonfanti released The Vice of Hope, a drama about a young woman's transformation from a victim of abuse to a successful businesswoman. The film was well received and won the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
