Luiz Pretti is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. He grew up in Rio de Janeiro and studied journalism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He began his career as a journalist, but soon discovered his passion for filmmaking.

In the early 1980s, Luiz Pretti moved to Los Angeles to study film at the University of Southern California. While there, he wrote and directed several award-winning short films. In 1988, he wrote and directed his first feature-length film, "Where The Wind Blows". The film was a critical success and earned him numerous awards, including a nomination for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Pretti's career took off after the success of his first feature, and he went on to direct several more films. He has directed both features and documentaries, with some of his most notable films being "The Price of Heaven" (1995), "The Lost Son" (1997), "The Green Wave" (2005), and "The Secret Life of Words" (2013). He has also directed several television series, including "The Third Step" (1999) and "Brasil Bandeirantes" (2004).

In addition to his directing work, Luiz Pretti has acted in several films, including "The Price of Heaven" and "The Lost Son".
