BIO

John B. Bredar is an American film director and producer. He is known for his many documentaries, feature films, and television shows. He has worked with some of the most respected names in the industry, including Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, and Martin Scorsese.

Bredar was born in Washington, D.C., in 1959. After attending college at American University, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in filmmaking. He began his career as an editor and assistant director in the early 1980s, working on several films including The Right Stuff and The Natural.

In the 1990s, Bredar shifted his focus to directing and producing. He produced the critically acclaimed documentary A Perfect Candidate, which was nominated for an Academy Award. He also directed the feature films Slaves of Hollywood and The King of Masks. He then directed and produced the television series The West, which won two Emmy Awards.

In 2004, Bredar directed and produced the award-winning documentary The Longest Yard. The film followed the story of a group of inmates in a maximum security prison who come together to form a football team. The film was critically acclaimed and won several awards, including the Peabody Award.

In 2008, Bredar directed and produced the documentary American Promise, which followed two African-American boys over 13 years as they navigated prep school and college. The film won several awards, including the Sundance Grand Jury Prize.

Bredar’s most recent project is the documentary The Homestretch, which follows three homeless teens as they fight to stay in school. The film won the Best Documentary Feature award at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival.

Bredar’s work has earned him numerous awards and recognition. He has been nominated for two Academy Awards, won two Emmys, and won numerous other awards and nominations. He is also a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
