BIO

Jimmy Chin is an American professional climber, mountaineer, skier, director, and photographer based in Jackson, Wyoming. He began climbing at the age of 13 and has since become one of the world’s most accomplished climbers, mountaineers, and photographers.

Chin has climbed and skied some of the world’s most difficult and remote mountains, including the first American ascent of the North Face of Mt. Everest. His other notable achievements include climbing and skiing the South Face of Mt. Everest, the first ascent of the Shark’s Fin on Mt. Meru in India, and the first ascent of the East Face of Great Trango Tower in western China.

Chin is also an accomplished photographer and filmmaker. He has shot for National Geographic, The North Face, Outside Magazine, and many other publications. He has also directed and produced award-winning films, including Meru (2015) and Free Solo (2018). Both of these films were nominated for Academy Awards and won several awards, including the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Chin has also co-founded Camp 4 Collective, a production company that specializes in adventure-based film production. He has been featured in various television shows, including the Discovery Channel’s Everest: Beyond the Limit, and has written articles for The New York Times, Outside Magazine, and National Geographic.

As an advocate for conservation and sustainability, Chin works with multiple environmental organizations, including Protect Our Winters and the Conservation Alliance. He is also a board member of the Khumbu Climbing Center, a training facility in Nepal.
