BIO

Jean Khalil Chamoun is a Lebanese film director, producer, and writer. He was born in Beirut in 1977.

Chamoun earned his degree in film making from the Lebanese University in 1998. He started his career in 2003 with the short film, “The Deportation”, which won the Best Short Film award at the Arab Film Festival in Brussels. In 2006, he wrote and directed his first feature film, “The Kite”, which won the Best Feature Film award at the Arab Film Festival.

Since then, Chamoun has directed several feature films, including “Amal” (2008), “The Long Road” (2012), “Taste of Cement” (2017) and “The Journey” (2020). His films have been featured at several international film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, Dubai International Film Festival, and the Venice Film Festival.

Chamoun is also a producer and has produced several feature films and documentaries. He has worked with several international film production companies, including Sony Pictures Classics, Sundance Institute, Memento Films International, and the Doha Film Institute.

Chamoun is passionate about creating meaningful films that tell stories of the Middle East, highlighting its beauty and its struggles. He strives to create films that speak to the stories of the region and challenge viewers to think about the current state of the region.

Chamoun has also been a mentor to many aspiring filmmakers in Lebanon and the Middle East. He has been involved in numerous workshops and conferences, and is committed to helping young filmmakers find their voices.

Chamoun has earned numerous awards and recognitions for his work. He has been honored with the Jury Prize at the Dubai International Film Festival (2007) and the Best Documentary Feature Film at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival (2017), among many others.
