Jakeb Anhvu was born on 1 November 1977 in Saigon, Vietnam. He is an Australian filmmaker and a graduate of the University of Melbourne Victorian College of the Arts. Working as both a director and writer, his films are known for their close observational approach and sustained engagement with social environments shaped by power, care, and vulnerability.
His debut feature documentary, Blush of Fruit (2012), premiered at IDFA in the First Appearance section. The film received the Best Documentary award at the Adelaide Film Festival and the New Australian Talent award at AIDC as part of the Asia Pacific New Documentary Program. These early recognitions positioned Anhvu as a distinctive voice within contemporary documentary cinema.
In addition to Blush of Fruit, his filmography includes Dan Bau Lullaby (2015) and A Hundred Years of Happiness (2020). Jakeb Anhvu has also been a recipient of the Asia Pacific Screen Lab mentorship programme, further developing his practice within an international documentary context.
