Ivana Pipal is a Croatian-born film director, producer, and screenwriter. She is best known for her work in the films The Chronicles of Zagreb (2005), Shoes (2009), and The Last Letter (2017).
Pipal was born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1978. She studied film at Zagreb’s Academy of Dramatic Art, and graduated in 2003. After graduation, she began working as a freelance director and producer in the Croatian film industry. Her first feature film, The Chronicles of Zagreb, released in 2005, was a low-budget indie film about a group of friends living in Zagreb. It was well-received by both critics and audiences, and established Pipal as an up-and-coming director.
In 2009, Pipal released her second feature film, Shoes. This film followed the story of a young woman in Zagreb who, after the sudden death of her father, was forced to make difficult choices about her future. Shoes was widely praised for its strong female protagonist and poignant storytelling.
Pipal’s third feature was The Last Letter (2017), a psychological thriller about a young woman struggling with guilt after a traumatic event. The film was a critical and commercial success, and was nominated for several awards.
