Gu Tao (born 1974) is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, and actor. He is best known for his 2006 drama film, The Old Donkey.

Gu Tao was born in Beijing, China. He received his bachelor's degree in directing from the Central Academy of Drama in 1998. Following his graduation, Gu Tao wrote and directed his first feature film, the comedy-drama A New Life in 2001. The film was well received by audiences and critics alike, and was nominated for several awards at the Chinese Golden Rooster Awards.

In 2004, Gu Tao directed the romantic drama film, The Old Donkey. The film was a commercial success, and earned Gu Tao a Best Director nomination at the Chinese Golden Rooster Awards. The film follows the story of a young couple who must overcome obstacles to save their relationship.
