Gottfried Toman was an Austrian actor and director who was born on June 15, 1938 in Vienna, Austria. He studied acting at the renowned Max Reinhardt Seminar and then went on to act in various films and television shows.

Gottfried Toman had a long and successful career in the entertainment industry. His first major role was in the 1969 Austrian film 'The Wildcat'. He also starred in the Italian-language war drama 'The Key to the Kingdom' in 1973, and the 1976 Austrian-German comedy 'The Great Love'.

In the late 1970s, Gottfried Toman turned to directing. His directorial debut was the 1979 drama 'The Nature of the Beast', which won him the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin Film Festival. He followed this up with the 1982 drama 'The House of the Spirits', which was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. In the same year, he directed the German-language film 'The Beach Hotel', which won two Silver Bears at the Berlin Film Festival.

Gottfried Toman also worked as a television director, helming episodes of the popular German television series 'Der Alte' from 1980 to 1984. He also directed and acted in several other television shows throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including 'Der Kommissar' and 'Der Bulle Von Tölz'.
