BIO

Frank Ruy is an acclaimed Canadian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for his work on the critically acclaimed films, The Seagull (2018), The Long Goodbye (2016), and The Dragonfly (2014).

Ruy was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, and attended the University of Toronto for his Bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Studies. After graduating, he worked at a few local production companies before starting his own production company, Ruy Productions, in 2006.

Ruy’s first feature-length film, The Seagull, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2018 and went on to win a slew of awards, including Best Canadian Feature at the Vancouver International Film Festival. The film was praised for its strong character development and beautiful visuals, and was nominated for seven Canadian Screen Awards.

Ruy followed up The Seagull with The Long Goodbye in 2016, a comedy-drama about a man struggling to make sense of his life while coming to terms with the death of his father. The film was well-received, winning several awards including Best Canadian Feature at the Calgary International Film Festival.

In 2014, Ruy released The Dragonfly, a drama about a young woman who is determined to overcome a difficult past. The film was nominated for five Genie Awards, and its star, Katherine Isabelle, won Best Actress at the Vancouver International Film Festival.

Ruy’s films have been praised for their strong emotional content and powerful performances. He is a master storyteller, creating complex characters and stories that stay with viewers long after they have seen the film.

Ruy continues to work on projects in both Canada and the United States. He is currently in production on his latest film, The Lion King, which is set to be released in 2021.
