BIO

Filipa Reis (Lisbon, 1977) is a Portuguese film director and producer active since 2000. She has a background in Business Management and holds a postgraduate degree in Cinema and Television.

She has co directed several documentaries with João Miller Guerra and directed the feature fiction film Djon Africa (2018), which premiered in the Tiger Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2019. Her second feature film, Légua, is currently in post production.

In 2008, Filipa Reis founded her own independent production company, through which she develops fiction and creative documentary projects, including Uma Pedra no Sapato, as well as television content under the label Vende se Filmes. The company is actively involved in international co productions and has worked with award winning Portuguese directors such as Miguel Gomes, Margarida Cardoso, Pedro Pinho, Marco Martins, Filipa Reis and João Miller Guerra, José Filipe Costa, Paulo Abreu and Leonor Teles, winner of the Golden Bear at Berlinale 2016.

Alongside established filmmakers, the company also supports the development of debut feature films by emerging talents including Maureen Fazendeiro, Duarte Coimbra, Sofia Bost, Ágata de Pinho, Aya Koretzky and Takashi Sugimoto. Films produced and directed by Filipa Reis have been selected and awarded at major international festivals and have achieved wide international release and distribution.

She is a member of the Eurodoc, Emerging Producers and EAVE networks, and has served as president of the Portuguese Association of Film Directors and vice president of the Portuguese Association of Independent Television Producers.
