Denis Delestrac



Denis Delestrac is a French documentary filmmaker and director. He has been making documentaries since 1994 and has directed and produced a variety of award-winning films.

Delestrac was born in Bordeaux in 1964. He studied art history and painting in France and Spain before moving to Paris to study filmmaking at the Louis Lumière Institute. After completing his studies, he worked in the documentary department of the National Audiovisual Institute in Paris for several years.

In 1994, he made his first documentary, "Les Démons du Ciel", which won the Grand Prix des Amériques at the Montréal International Film Festival. Since then, he has gone on to produce and direct numerous documentaries, including "The War Against Terror" (1998), "The Unknown War" (1999), "The Road to Iraq" (2003), "The Shipbreakers" (2009), and "Sand Wars" (2013).

His documentaries have been screened at numerous prestigious film festivals and received numerous awards, including the International Emmy Award for Best Documentary in 2005 for "The Unknown War".

In addition to his work in documentary filmmaking, Delestrac has also served as a jury member for the Cannes Film Festival and has been a professor at the University of La Sorbonne.

Delestrac is well known for his thoughtful, thought-provoking documentaries that explore the social and political issues of our time. His films are often critical of the power structures that exist in society and seek to draw attention to the plight of those who are often overlooked in our globalized world.

In 2019, Delestrac released his latest documentary, "The Great Green Wall", which tells the story of the Great Green Wall project that is being undertaken in Africa. The film highlights the importance of the project and its potential to combat the effects of climate change.
