BIO

Daniele Anastasion is a critically-acclaimed director and producer whose work spans documentary and narrative film, television, and commercial projects. She has worked with leading networks such as HBO, Netflix, ABC, and PBS, and with prominent organizations such as the United Nations, the NFL, and the ACLU.

Anastasion was born in New York City and attended Brown University, where she received her degree in Visual Arts and Media Studies. After graduating, she served as a cinematographer for the award-winning documentary films “Lost Boys of Sudan” and “The Devil Came on Horseback.” She then went on to direct her first feature-length documentary, “The Redemption of General Butt Naked.” The film was nominated for an Emmy Award and won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival.

Following the success of “The Redemption of General Butt Naked,” Anastasion has directed a number of other documentaries, including “Girl Rising” (about girls’ education in the developing world) and “A Path Appears” (about social change). She also directed the feature-length documentary “Tig,” which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2015.

Anastasion has also directed and produced television series for HBO, including “The Trans List” and “The Trans Generation.” She has also directed two narrative films, “The Intervention” and “Dolce Fine Giornata.”

Anastasion’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, including a Peabody Award, a DuPont-Columbia Award, and a National Emmy Award. Additionally, she has been honored by the American Civil Liberties Union, the International Documentary Association, and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Anastasion is committed to creating meaningful, powerful stories that have the potential to effect social change. Through her work, she hopes to bring awareness to important social issues and to empower viewers to make a difference.
